Forests of the Carpathian Biosphere Reserve were burning for the second time in two days

On April 7, near the village of Kostylivka in Rakhiv district, in the Carpathian Biosphere Reserve, two fires occurred within several hours.

The first report came to the Rescue Service at 13:25. The fire engulfed dead wood on the area of ​​0.8 hectares. Half of that territory belongs to the reserve, and the rest – to Kostylivka village council. The fire was extinguished without professional firefighters – 10 workers of the SE "Rakhiv Forest Research Farm" and local residents were fighting the fire.

And a few hours later, at 16:04, the Rescue Service received a call about another fire near the village of Kostylivka, in the Carpathian Biosphere Reserve. The fire occured at the same place as the day before, on April 6. Firefighters of the 3rd State Fire and Rescue Unit, as well as the reserve forest rangers and local residents quickly arrived at the scene. In total, 27 people were extinguishing the fire. Together they localized the fire at 17:40 and at 18:00 completely eliminated it. The fire had destroyed leaves and bushes over the area of ​​1 hectare. 

Causes of the fire are currently being established.
