"What will your friend do if general mobilization is announced?"
On January 20, another wave of mobilization will begin in Ukraine. The reason is the need for rotation of soldiers who are in the ATO area. However, this date is tentative because the decree must be approved by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and signed by the President.
Representatives of the Transcarpathian Regional Military Commissariat assure that the new wave of mobilization will not be significantly different from the previous ones. Thus, they will be calling up those who have been on the military service in the ranks of the Soviet Army and the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Thus, over 30% are ready to defend the country
First, sociologists measured the degree of determination of citizens to defend the territorial integrity indirectly by asking a euphemism question, "What will your friend do if hostilities resume, and general mobilization will be announced?" A lot of respondents avoided a direct answer - 37.8% said "hard to say", and 15.1% refused to answer. The answer "He will definitely go to the army and fight" was chosen by not many people - 27.4% (47.6 - in Galicia and 4.7 - in the Donbass). However, the answer "He will try to evade mobilization" was even less popular - 14.5%. The record here is held by Odesa region - 39.6%.
Interesting results were received in Transcarpathia. Here, the number of potential defenders and hypothetical "draft dodgers" is both quite large and comparable - 30.6 and 23.9% respectively. As one prominent politician joked, in Transcarpathian region, there is roughly the same number of patriots, pacifists and patriot-pacifists. Given that 34.2% Transcarpathians couldn't clearly answer this question, we can assume that he is not far from the truth.
11.8% of respondents admitted that they are worried about the risk of themselves or their relatives being called up to military service. And the number of concerned people in the West of Ukraine is greater (15.4%) than those in the East (12.7%) and in the Donbass (7.6%). Perhaps in Donetsk and Luhansk regions, people just do not believe that they will be called to the army.
Evading the mobilization is punishable by imprisonment for a term of two to five years.
