January 5, an unprecedented event took place in Uzhgorod - the opening of the first private park in Ukraine. It is a park, founded and thus presented to the city by the Panov family. The modern park is designed in the best European tradition: a graceful monument of Maria Theresa (architect - Bogdan Tomaszewski), Pantheon of the Castle Hill with carvings of famous people who have left a significant mark in the history of Uzhgorod (designers - Ivan and Anna Ivanyshyns, artists - Anatoliy and Nataliya Tesovski), natural paving stone, wrought iron ornaments, flowers in neat flowerbeds, benches. And most importantly, the opportunity to see the panoramic view of one of the best buildings of the city - the Cathedral on Kapitulna Street. All that made the event remarkable.
The ceremonial consecration of the monument of Maria Theresa was befitting to the beauty and symbolism of the park and became one of the most solemn and elegant events in the pre-Christmas time in Uzhgorod. The sacrament was performed by priests of several Christian denominations, traditional for Uzhgorod. The accompaniment of the church choir and bells of the Cathedral gave the audience positive emotions and faith in the future.
The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin, the founder and initiator of the park Alen Panov, the clergy, the artists who worked on the project and many Uzhgorod residents.
Pavlo Klimkin said that the monument to Maria Theresa was a symbol of our common history with the European Union. The event, according to the Minister, demonstrates the pro-European inclination of Uzhgorod and Ukraine, shared history and values of life.
The park showed that civil society is rapidly emerging in Ukraine. Without government assistance, without administrative resource, the Panov family united people for a good cause. The initiative was implemented.
Almost all the tasks set out for the project have been implemented:
- For the first time in Ukraine a monument to Empress Maria Theresa and the Pantheon of the Castle Hill has been opened
- The park appeared as a symbol of joint Ukrainian and European history, attraction for Uzhgorod residents and tourists
- A convenient place for viewing and taking panoramic photos of the Cathedral has appeared
- The example for patrons and wealthy people has appeared, calling them to do good.
