The European Commission commented on the introduction of additional duties by Ukraine
The implementation of additional restrictive measures on trade by Ukraine should be in strict compliance with the requirements of the World Trade Organization.
This was told to the "Ukrinform" in Brussels by the spokesman for trade of the European Commission Daniel Rosario, when asked about the results of urgent consultations between the EC and the Government of Ukraine on introduction of additional import duties by the Ukrainian party.
"The European Commission hopes that the adoption of restrictive trade measures by Ukraine to stabilize the balance of payments will be implemented in strict compliance with the requirements of the WTO", - the representative of the European Commission said.
He noted that the EU takes note of the fact that Ukraine has decided to postpone the entry into force of this decision in view of the need for consultation with international financial institutions.
"We reiterate our openness in further technical consultations with Ukraine," - Rosario said.
According to him, the EU believes that the relevant committee of the WTO is the appropriate forum for wider official consultation on this issue.
"The EU remains deeply concerned because of economic difficulties and challenges to macroeconomic stability of Ukraine and fully supports the action plan establishing the reform agenda of the coalition government" - representative of the European Commission emphasized.
