In Uzhgorod all housing offices will be eliminated
All Uzhgorod housing offices will be eliminated.
It will be done in the first quarter of the year.
The article in the Podrobytsi explains why are they going to do that and who will do repairs in buildings and provide services to residents.
One of Uzhgorod appartment blocks is served by the city Housing Office number 4.
The walls of the building are covered with moss. Cardboard instead of glass on the entrances. Peeling landing. The roof leaks, people repair it themselves.
"I've been living here for 45 years, the Housing Office has done no repairs, no anything. Gutters are rotten, the wall is wet even on this side" - a resident of Uzhgorod Oleksandr Mishin said.
Despite that, the residents say, they regularly pay for services every month. Over 60 UAH for a two-bedroom apartment.
"They do nothing at all, we do not even know what we pay the money for!" - a resident of the house complains.
It is not true, the Housing Office says. They respond to requests of the residents. Recently, for example. they replaced windows in houses.
The utilities admit that they cannot do it all, they say that they serve 300 high-rises built 50 years ago with only 30 employees. Also, they do not have the money for repairs, because not all residents pay for services.
People say they are tired of hearing excuses. Residents of this apartment building, it is by the way the nearest to the Housing Office, two years ago refused from the services of the public utilities and created a condominium.
"In a short span of time, we have done a tremendous job: replaced sewers, repaired the roof, did repairs at each entrance" - a resident of Uzhgorod Uliana Balaner said.
Housing offices are a relic of the past, and should be eliminated, the City Hall decided. The enterprises will become private, and will offer premium, but quality services, the officials say.
On the one hand people are excited, but they are also concerned that private utilities may keep on doing slapdash work, but this time for more money.
And who will set prices for different types of work?
The City Hall does not yet have answers to these questions. It will be decided by local deputies at the next session.
