Drafting of the Development Strategy of Transcarpathia is at the finish line

On Monday, January 26, at the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration, there was the meeting of the Coordinating Council for drafting the Development Strategy of Transcarpathian region until 2020.

The event was attended by the Deputy Governor Mykhailo Rivis, the Director of the Economic Development and Trade Department of the RSA – Mykhailo Kivkovych, the chairman of the committee on regional socio-economic development, investment and resource potential of the Public Council under the RSA – Oleg Luksha, the Head of the Department of International Economic Relations of UzhNU Professor – Volodymyr Prikhodko, Acting Vice Rector on scientific and pedagogical work and international relations of UzhNU professor – Miroslava Lendiel and other leading experts.

         Addressing the audience, the Deputy Governor Mykhailo Rivis said that by February 6 this year, according to the National Strategy for Regional Development, the team members must agree available material for further approval at the regional level. "I hope that the efforts of the government, academics, community and business will be aimed at addressing issues of development and stimulation of the regional economy competitive principles, as well as equal public access to social and administrative services" – Mykhailo Rivis said.

The Director of the Economic Development and Trade Department of the Regional State Administration Mykhailo Kivkovych said: "The following priorities have been identified in the draft Development Strategy of the region: human potential development, improvment of the standard of living, the competitiveness of the region, European integration, cross-border cooperation and environmental protection. This, in turn, will be included in the main planning document for the development of the region in the long term."

During the discussion, the Coordinating Council members agreed that the final version of the Strategy should be approved by leading scholars of the region.   

Note: In order to draft the Regional Development Strategy of Transcarpathian region until 2020, by the order of the Head of the Regional State Administration of 18.08.2014 №250, the Coordinating Council for drafting the Development Strategy of the region for the next 5 years was established, consisting of representatives of the government, business, community and scholars.

The State Strategy is aimed at identifying issues and tools for solving social problems, increasing economic potential of the territories, their economy performance, profitability of business and incomes of Transcarpathian population, and, consequently, creating conditions for improving overall standards, quality of living and development of business environment.
