Photo exhibitions “Jews of Transcarpathia” and “100 years of Joint” opened in Uzhgorod

Today, in the Transcarpathian Regional Museum of Folk Architecture and Life, there was the opening of the photo exhibitions "Jews of Transcarpathia" and "100 years of Joint", an exhibition of children’s works, Jewish publications of Transcarpathia. The event was also attended by the Chairman of the Regional Council Volodymyr Chubirko, the head of the Hesed Shpira Mykhailo Galin, Uzhgorod Mayor Victor Pogorelov, the head of the Culture Department of the Regional State Administration Yuriy Hleba

Here, you can see pictures of the Jewish community in Transcarpathia over the last century. Also, there are works relating to the charitable organization. The organization "Joint" is the largest Jewish charitable organization established in 1914. It is headquartered in New York City. The "Joint" helps Jews in need of protection or financial assistance around the globe. In 2004, missions of the "Joint" were operating in 60 countries. The main areas of work are assistance to elderly people, support for families and children, the development of the Jewish community and international development.

At the opening ceremony, the Chairman of the Regional Council Volodymyr Chubirko noted that Jewish community has always been active on the territory of Transcarpathia. "The contribution of the community to the history of our region is very valuable. They developed trade, crafts, industry. We appreciate the support of Israel at this difficult time for Ukraine. They support Ukraine in the current situation, our citizens have the right to visa-free entry. I am confident that our contacts will only become stronger", – the Chairman of the Regional Council said.
