OPORA complains about "black PR" against candidates for the mayor of Uzhgorod
The OPORA, which conducts public monitoring of the local elections in Ukraine to be held on October 25, 2015, records the actions that can be qualified as "black PR" against candidates for the mayor of Uzhgorod.
Negative information containing signs of "black PR" against potential candidates for the mayor of Uzhgorod is being distributed through a social network "Facebook". This trend wad recorded by the OPORA observers in the first weeks of the campaign.
In particular, on September 21, a post appeared on the Facebook page of Uzhgorod night club "Eila White Club", in which the potential candidate for the mayor of Uzhgorod Mykhailo Kachur is accused of inefficient work of the "Uzhgorod Turbogaz" JSC headed by him.
Kachur is not the only candidate who is the "hero" of publications on the web.
Thus, the OPORA reports, on September 12, in the Facebook community "City of Uzhgorod" providing only positive information about the potential candidate for the mayor of Uzhgorod Victor Shchadey, a negative information about another potential candidate for the mayor - the Chairman of the Transcarpathian Regional Council Volodymyr Chubirko - was distributed.
And on September 13, Volodymyr Chubirko already published the response to this post.
The OPORA encourages all participants of the election process and media workers to comply with the requirements of paragraph 5 of Article 60 of the Law of Ukraine "On Local Elections", under which distribution of knowingly false information about a candidate or a political party being a participant of the election process, as well as dissemination of deliberately false information about the support for a particular candidate or a party by other candidates, political parties or their local organizations is prohibited.
