Transcarpathian customs officers seized over UAH 2.8 million worth of cigarettes
Since 2015, 118 cases of transportation of tobacco products across the customs border of Ukraine in violation of customs legislation have been recorded at the Transcarpathian customs office. In general, in cases of violation of customs rules, 4,438,640 pieces of cigarettes worth 2,811,968 UAH have been confiscated.
It should be noted that Transcarpathia is one of the regions where most cases of cigarette smuggling has been recorded. Other regions belonging to the zones of the western region customs are Lviv, Chernivtsi and Volyn regions. The illegal transportation of tobacco products is attributed to the fact that their price in the EU is much higher than in Ukraine.
Employees of the SFS emphasize that the Customs Code of Ukraine provides for penalty for offenses related to transportation of goods, including cigarettes, across the customs border of Ukraine in the form of fines and confiscation. If transportation across the customs border of Ukraine took place outside the customs control or concealed from customs control in specially made caches in vehicles, the additional penalty in the form of confiscation of vehicles is provided.
