Propositions of young people to regional authorities were discussed in Uzhgorod
In the Transcarpathian Regional Scientific Library, there was a press conference to discuss "Propositions of young people to regional authorities to ensure overcoming stereotypes between regions", dveloped under the project "Unity in diversity: overcoming stereotypes and conflicts, establishing dialogue between young people of the East, South and West Ukraine", which was implemented by the NGO "Youth Alternative" in cooperation with regional NGOs during 2015 with the support of the National Endowment for Democracy.
The aim of the project was to establish a dialogue between young people of the East, South and West Ukraine; to destroy stereotypes in the perception of each other; to form the space where you can hear the thoughts of participants from different regions and develop a common vision of modern Ukraine conflict resolution; to share experiences in civic activities, to teach participants to influence the government; to force authorities to hear the community; to establish close contacts between active young people for the sake of united sovereign Ukraine. The project involved eight trips for students from the South and East of Ukraine to western regions.
During the event, young people presented their propositions to the authorities for overcoming stereotypes in the perception of each other: development of specific regional and national programs, a number of measures for the revival of historical memory, Ukrainian language and culture; introduction of the system of intercollegiate exchanges of students and teachers; attraction of young people to the cultural creative activity; support for local history programs, promotion and preservation of cultural heritage, support for people's cultural traditions in the region; initiating the annual contests on knowledge of culture and history of the regions; development of motivational programs for "passive" youth in the field of culture on the (inter) regional level; intensification of the research of the history of Ukraine and other peoples living in Ukraine, regional, local historical researches.
Among the propositions, there were also a very pragmatic one: to establish good transport links between eastern and western regions (especially Transcarpathia), because the existing system is not conducive to frequent and quick travels from one region of Ukraine to another.
Similar events were held in other regions of Ukraine. Let's hope that the government will listen to the recommendations of young people and will make steps to overcome stereotypes and increase mutual understanding between the East and the West of our Ukraine.
