Graves of known Transcarpathian
A lot has been written about the largest and the oldest cemetery in Uzhgorod - the Calvary located on the modern Castle Hill (Daleka street).
In particular, Lyudmyla Sakharova, who has been studying the subject for decades, stated that it arose in the second half of the eighteenth century, when Transcarpathia was a part of Austria-Hungary. And one of the first persons to be buried there was Hungarian poet Doiko Gabor, who died in 1796. Unfortunately, his tomb has not survived.
Many other prominent figures of Uzhgorod and the region are buried there. Those are artists Yosyp Bokshai, Adalbert Erdelyi, Ernest Kontratovych, Fedir Manailo, Pavlo Bedzir, historian Petro Sova, former governor of the Subcarpathian Antonin Beskid, known composer Desiderius Zador, writer Fedir Potushnyak, poet Petro Skunts.
There is the grave of the famous Brashchayko family, as well as Andriy Novak - the founder of the regional hospital, which now bears his name. In the crypt, the known Laudon family is buried, which included teachers, doctors, lawyers and naturalist and educator Istvan Laudon.
We have found some graves of famous people and captured them on camera.
If time destroys the graves, the photos will keep memories of them. And another thing, some graves now are not in the best condition.
So it is necessary to take care of them. After all, it is the history of our land.
