For traffic rules violations drivers will lose points

On November 7, not only the National Police started working in Ukraine, but also the traffic rules partially changed.

One of the major innovations is the emergence of the concept of "penalty points". Now every Ukrainian, who has the right to drive a vehicle, annually (from the date of the receipt of driving license) will be charged 150 points.

In case of automatically recorded violation of traffic rules, 50 points will be written off from the driver. Those are speeding, driving on red light, violation of stopping and parking rules, and a driving on lanes for public transport.

After exhausting the limit, the driver will have to pay fines in monetary form for all subsequent violations. If the driver does not violate traffic rules during the year and, accordingly, does not use the penalty points, they will not be carried over to the next period.

As the Traffic Police Office in Transcarpathian region explained, no changes in the traffic rules are envisaged. However, there are changes in the section regarting liability for their violation. However, so far there are no mechanisms for their application in practice on the ground (this was the situation at the time of preparation of the article). They are waiting for the recommendations from Kyiv.
