Transcarpathia is the cradle of Ukrainian independence! (PHOTOS)
Today, March 15, to celebrate the 76th anniversary of the Carpatho-Ukraine, in Uzhgorod, on Nezalezhnist embankment, there will be the ceremony of laying flowers at the monument to the Hero of Ukraine, President of Carpatho-Ukraine Augustin Voloshin.
A basket of flowers and bouquets of roses were laid to the monument by the head of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration Vasyl Hubal, the First Deputy Chairman of the Regional Council Mykhailo Popovich, Uzhgorod Mayor Victor Pogorelov, heads of law enforcement and regulatory agencies of the region, members of the public, the press office of RSA informed.
Note: On the night of March 15, 1939, the independence of Carpatho-Ukraine was proclaimed in the city of Khust. On that same day, the ally of Nazi Germany Hungary launched a general offensive.
Despite the heroic armed resistance groups of small units of Carpathian Sich, the enemy could not be stopped and Carpatho-Ukraine was occupied.
Carpatho-Ukraine is an example of the desire of Ukrainians to build statehood even in unfavorable polictical conditions.
Ukrainians in Transcarpathia became the first nation in the interwar Europe that did not put up with the annexation, and stood up with arms for their freedom from the enemy's aggression.
