On March 12, the "Uzhgorod" gallery presented the lovers of the traditions of the Transcarpathian school of painting the works of its outstanding representative - Mykhailo Sapatyuk (1925-2000).

The master was born in the Czech Republic, he was the son of immigrants from Transcarpathia. He studied at the Prague Ukrainian school, where, in particular, he received artistic training.

In 1944 he joined the ranks of the Soviet Army - he fought in the amphibious group in Slovakia and served in the partisan unit "Avangard". Subsequently, he was honored with numerous awards and medals for combat service.

After demobilization, Mykhailo Sapatyuk settled in Uzhgorod. It was here where the rich creative life of the artist started. He joined the newly formed at the time Transcarpathian Regional Art Union, and began actively participating in exhibitions and open airs in Ukraine, Slovakia, Hungary and Poland. Also he worked as a graphic designer in theaters of Lviv and Uzhgorod, in the Transcarpathian art and production studio.

Today, works of the Honored Artist of Ukraine are kept in domestic and foreign museums and private collections. The selection for this exhibition was provided entirely by the artist's family. In total, there are forty works that introduce viewers to chronology and geography of the master's art, originality and harmony of his realistic painting.   

The exhibition "In memoria", devoted to the 90th anniversary of Mykhailo Sapatyuk, will run for two weeks.
