Public discussion "Real electoral reform" will be held in Uzhgorod (Announcement)
On March 31, 2015, at 14.00, in the small meeting hall of UzhNU administration building (Narodna Sq., 3; 2nd floor), there will be a roundtable on "Real electoral reform" conducted by a group of non-governmental organizations OPORA, Ukrainian Center for Independent Political Research and Internews Ukraine with the support of the International Foundation for Electoral Systems. During the event, experts will present the concept of the new Law "On Elections of People's Deputies of Ukraine" and local elections, and together with MPs, representatives of political parties, academic and community experts will talk about current legislative innovations for the preparation and conduct of elections in accordance with international democratic standards.
As you know, the coalition agreement in the Parliament provides that in the first quarter of 2015, a proportional electoral system with open lists will be introduced for the election of the Ukrainian parliament and significant changes in the law on local elections by the end of July.
However, for the first 100 days of the new Parliament work, no significant steps towards electoral reform were made. That's why experts will present the concept of the new Law "On Elections of People's Deputies of Ukraine" and the Law "On Elections of Deputies of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, local councils and village, town and city heads" based on international democratic standards and practices.
The participants of the event:
- Yevhen Radchenko, the director of "Internews - Ukraine", the senior expert of the Group on reforming the electoral law of the Emergency reform package (Kyiv);
