A seminar on alternative education will take place in Uzhgorod (Announcement)
On March 21, Saturday, at 11.00, in Uzhgorod, in the linguistic center "LIK", there will be an important event: the first workshop on alternative education. The founders and teachers of the "BerkoScho", which was opened in Kyiv in 2011 - Valentina Merzhyievska, Katerina Okremova and Olesya Mamnych - will share their experience.
Any parent knows that school system is stalled: children are overworked, they do not want to learn and go to school, they are taught a set of facts, most of which will not help to succeed in today's world, and to get real knowledge and to enter into a good university, they will still need services of hired tutors. Some believe that this is the Ukrainian problem but actually the search for new, alternative ways of education is taking place everywhere. The so-called "homeschoolers" movement is popular in many European countries and the USA.
Is there an alternative to regular school? What are the advantages and disadvantages of home schooling? Why do children who do not go to school, learn faster, more enthusiastically, and achieve higher success? How to organize schooling so that it would not take all the parents' free time?
Nobody has blueprints yet, since the topic is relatively new. But there are people willing to share their experience and advice.
Issues to be discussed at the workshop:
• Out-of-school education. Family and home education. External studies.
• BerkoScho. The origins and development.
• The traditional school disciplines and non-traditional classes.
• Schooling without grades.
• Prioritization: child's interests, desires of adults, education programs.
For parents who want to come to the workshop with children, at the "LIK", there will be a class of the English Kids' Club for children ages 4 to 9 years - a fun conversation club in English.
