The provocateur stairs or What do you think? (PHOTOS)

Responding to one of the most lively debate on urban space since the discussion of the "reconstruction" of Narodna Square – painting of stairs on Zamkovi Skhody street, uzhgorod.in decided to carry out a mini-study and to evaluate the event firsthand.

While being on the street (which, as you know, is all the stairs and at the grace of guides has a second name "Kiss Street"), we asked every passerby how did they like the update.

So, Mr Desideriy, who lives on this street with the dog Bodri, definitely approves it. He says it has become merrier. Mrs Lisa, apparently a university lecturer, also supports it – she says she often walks these stairs and from now on will be doing it with pleasure. A young man in a white shirt, who just ran down the bright steps, also supports the update. And a couple – Mrs Tetyana and Mr. Yuriy – from now on will be walking here more often…

In any case, painting of these special stairs has left nobody indifferent. If disputes in social networks will result in meaningful discussion about criteria of changes in the urban space, the "rainbow staircase" can be considered a useful event which has triggered the activity of the community. It is possible that the event will become a push to a "live" dialogue about the city and even to other steps aimed at changing the urban environment. For now, the townspeople are voicing their opinions – whether they approve the bright staircase or not. The opinions are often categorical: for some people, it is definitely joyful and beautiful, but for their opponents, it is an unacceptable interference in the historic environment.
