The management of Transcarpathia met with representatives of the Lviv Railway

Yesterday, there was a meeting with the participation of the head of the Regional State Administration Vasyl Hubal, the Regional Council Chairman Volodymyr Chubirko, the Deputy Head of the State Territorial-Branch Association "Lviv Railway" Oleksandr Efimenko, the head of separate subdivision "Uzhgorod rail transportation directorate" of the State Territorial-Branch Association "Lviv Railway" Oleksandr Pushkar. Among other things, they discussed the possibility of arrangement a new bus station in Uzhgorod.

Vasyl Hubal said that the largest cities in the region may receive municipal bus stations. Because it is necessary to create an alternative to the monopolist, that allows himself to ignore the rights of passengers, including beneficiaries - the "Zakarpatautotrans" which has actually privatized this activity in the region. Rights and comfort of Transcarpathians, the opportunity to choose their service provider is the priority.

They agreed to establish a working group and work to improve the infrastructure and facilities for passengers. The management of the region said that it is necessary to create a quality alternative to the monopolist that allows a dismissive attitude to beneficiaries. By the way, in Khust such bus station opened yesterday. There will be the same proposition for Mukachevo.

Volodymyr Chubirko also raised the issue of preservation of the narrow gauge in the region. The Chairman of the Regional Council said that the regional administration would promote attraction of investments to preserve the narrow gauge. Moreover, they are considering opportunities to revive Borzhava narrow gauge through grant programs. But, without the support of railway workers, it is not going to progress. "You can join the EU grant program which provides funds for the development of small railways. And, given the public opinion, we must not only maintain the narrow gauge railway, but also turn it into a tourist attraction," - Volodymyr Chubirko said.

The Chairman of the Regional Council raised another issue that had been discussed with Hungarian partners. This is the introduction of railway route Mukachevo - Budapest.  In order to open the route, it is necessary to lay 500 meters of narrow gauge to Mukachevo. And here, funds of the EU and the railroad administration can also be used - Volodymyr Chubirko suggests.
