The chief engineer of the Road Service in Transcarpathian region Vasyl Stadnik informed on the current state of the road and traffic on the pass section of the highway Mizhhirya-Kolochava-Bushtyno (Synevyr pass).

"This section of the road was built in the 1960's over the Synevyr pass - Vasyl Stadnik says. - The area is characterized by difficult engineering geological and hydrogeological conditions, slide areas and rather high level of groundwater that come out to the surface."

He also noted that in the course of long-term use of the road in difficult mountain conditions, due to the negative impact of geological factors of changing groundwater horizons, individual elements of the road and engineering structures on it had begun to collapse. As a result, swellings, subsidences and landslides on the roadbed have formed. Also the pressure of the soil is increasing, resulting in destruction of retaining walls. The reinforced concrete fence also requires replacement.

In order to resolve the pressing issue of landslides and the collapse of retaining walls, the Road Service in Transcarpathian region appealed to the Ukravtodor with concrete propositions on the plan of repair work on the Synevyr pass.

"Experts of the Ukravtodor have compiled a list of necessary works throughout the road network in Ukraine and submitted for approval to the Cabinet the necessary funding that is to be provided at the expense of loans from European institutions" - the chief engineer of the Road Service in Transcarpathian region Vasyl Stadnik summed up.
