Regional Council approved the list of plants to be protected

Yesterday, deputies of the Transcarpathian Regional Council adopted the decision "On approving the list of species of vascular plants and habitats subject to special protection in the region."

Such a decision is necessary as Article 15 of the Law of Ukraine "On Environmental Protection in Ukraine", Article 30 of the Law of Ukraine "On Flora" set out the basic measures for the protection, conservation, creating conditions for the restoration of plant species that are not listed in the Red Book of Ukraine, but are rare or threatened with extinction in the region and are to be protected in these territories.

By the decision of the Transcarpathian Regional Council of 17.04.2014 №1002, the Regulations on the List of species subject to special protection in the region have been approved. In accordance with paragraph 5 of the decision, the membership of the Regional Commission on the List of plants subject to special protection in Transcarpathian region was approved.

On December 9, 2014, there was a meeting of the Regional Commission that reviewed the List of species of vascular plants subject to special protection in Transcarpathian region and based on the results of research decided to exclude from the list 22 species of vascular plants, replacing them with 22 new species of vascular plants. Taking into account the suggestions and comments of the scientists, the List of species subject to special protection in Transcarpathian region includes 321 species of higher vascular plants.

Given the orientation of the foreign policy of Ukraine to the European Union and the cross-border location of Transcarpathian region, scientists reviewed and proposed to approve the List of habitats subject to special protection in Transcarpathian region.
