On Friday, May 8, in the lobby of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration, there were celebrations on the occasion of the Day of Remembrance and Reconciliation and the 70th anniversary of the victory over Nazism in Europe.
The event was attended by leaders of the region - Vasyl Hubal and Volodymyr Chubirko, veterans, participants of the ATO, media representatives and youth.
The event was inaugurated by the Academic Chamber Choir "Cantus" with the performance of the State Anthem of Ukraine.
The head of the region gratefully welcomed consuls of neighboring countries who came to support the celebrations, and especially veterans - participants of the Second World War, those who suffered from repressions, and participants of the ATO. He said: "Transcarpathia is a special region. And it so happened that residents of the region unwillingly were fighting on different sides of the front, but for their native land. Now is the time to unite for reconciliation and remembrance. This is what I encourage the community to. Glory to Ukraine and glory to its heroes!"
After the speech, Vasyl Hubal announced a minute of silence.
Participant of the ATO in eastern Ukraine, the commander of the special purpose unit "Carpathian Sich" Taras Dejak thanked veterans for the right to live in a peaceful and free country and said that our generation never thought that they would also have to fight and defend against the so-called big brother, that cynically ignores all the signed agreements, killing hundreds of innocent people, destroying cities and villages.
The grand finale of the event was a song performed by the "Cantus", after which the participants of the meeting continued communication in informal atmosphere.
