In Transcarpathia, illegal migrant smugglers have been convicted

The sentence of Volovets district court in Transcarpathian region against members of the criminal group, who in 2013 organized illegal crossing of the state border of Ukraine for more than 30 illegal migrants, has come into force.

It was established that the group organizer, a native of Lviv region, engaged to illegal activity two accomplices, one of whom had already been sentenced for trafficking of illegal migrants.

The responsibilities of each member of the criminal group were clearly divided - from search for groups of illegal migrants, hiding them in temporary shelters, escorting foreigners from Lviv region to Transcarpathia and their actual smuggling across the state border of Ukraine bypassing checkpoints. While delivering another group of illegal migrants to the Slovak-Ukrainian state border, the offenders were detained by Special Forces of the Security Service of Ukraine in Transcarpathian region.

The Security Service of Ukraine investigators proved that from the beginning of July to mid-August 2013, the criminals illegally transported across the state border 32 illegal migrants.

Volovets District Court found the group members guilty of a crime under Part 3 of Art.332 (illegal conveyance of persons across the state border of Ukraine) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The organizer and one of his accomplices were sentenced to 4 years imprisonment with a probation period of 3 years. The member of the criminal group previously convicted for the same crime was sentenced to 1 year and 1 month imprisonment.
