A series of roundtables with scholars will be organized in Transcarpathia

The goal and the way of reform must be constantly explained to people. This was discussed today, May 22, in the Office for Reforms by its experts with scholars of Uzhgorod National University.

As the Vice-Rector of UzhNU Miroslav Lendyel is a member of the working group on implementation of voluntary association of local communities in the region, she believes that it is necessary to hold regular consultations with leading scholars on issues relating to reform. "I think, it would be appropriate to create a special section, in which specific issues related to the introduction of reforms would be commented and explained by theorists and practitioners. Thus, we will have two views that will bring us closer to objective vision of problems and ways to solve them" - Mrs. Miroslava said.

Instead, the researcher at the Institute of innovative technologies and content of education of the MES of Ukraine Mykhailo Delegan suggests for discussion and elaboration of proposals the format of a roundtable which would be attended by academics, members of the public and the government. "I think that the opinion of law experts is most important here. Because decentralization is a basic component of the constitutional reform. Expert analysis is essential here!" - Mr. Mykhailo says.

In general, the participants in the conversation noted: despite the efforts made to clarify the goals and ways of local government reforming, ordinary citizens still do not understand why these changes are being implemented now. "Moreover, - the expert Roman Sarkanych says - sometimes even representatives of local authorities and deputies do not try to understand that. And they should be interested in strengthening the self-government, expansion of his powers more than anyone. It is clear that they do not even want to study the requirements for strengthening of their personal responsibility (as envisaged by the reform)!"

In addition to exchange of ideas, their visions of future cooperation, the participants of the meeting agreed to hold the next round table on the most urgent measures and objectives of decentralization of power next week, the Office for Reforms in Transcarpathian region informs.
