The new rules for Schengen visa issuing are applied starting today
On June 23, the Visa Information System of the European Union (VIS) starts operating in Ukraine.
This is stated in the report on the official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, - the hromadske.tv informs.
The system is introduced simultaneously in all countries of the "Eastern Partnership" which will become the 17th region where the VIS will be applied.
The system provides that when submitting applications for Schengen visas, citizens will have to have their digitized fingerprints and digitized photographs taken. Schengen visas obtained before June 23, 2015 remain valid for the period specified in them.
Under the VIS, biometric data shall not be required from children under 12 years old; persons who physically cannot provide fingerprints; heads of states and governments, members of national governments and their husbands / wives, accompanying persons and members of their official delegations in the presence of an invitation from the governments of the Member States or international organizations for official purposes; sovereigns and other ruling members of the royal family in the presence of an invitation from the governments of the Member States or international organizations for official purposes.
Fingerprints shall be taken on the first submission of an application for a visa. After that, the collected information will be stored in the VIS databases for five years (59 months). Consular offices of the Member States, as well as visa centers shall have the right to carry out such procedures.
In case of application for a national visa to an EU member state, the requirement for such information is governed solely by the law of relevant states.
