The management of the region discussed prospects of cooperation with the European Investment Bank

The head of the European Investment Bank Office in Ukraine Liliya Chernyavska is visiting Transcarpathia. The financial institution considers the prospects for serious investment in our country, primarily in infrastructure projects and programs related to living conditions of IDPs and the restoration of the state in general. Therefore, the head of the office in Ukraine contacts representatives of the authorities and examines promising facilities.

On Tuesday, June 16, Liliya Chernyavska met with the head of the Transcarpathian Regional Administration Vasyl Hubal and the Chairman of the Regional Council Volodymyr Chubirko. Yesterday, the representative of the bank and the Chairman of the Regional Council visited Uzhgorod city water utility and wastewater treatment plants, which are known to need reconstruction, she will also examine the same facilities in Beregovo and Mukachevo. The bank considers prospects of investments for their modernization, as Europe, having a common body of water with Ukraine, is interested in safety of water utilities and quality of wastewater treatment. However, investments from the bank are intended not only for these projects. Ms. Liliya told the regional authorities that the EIB has large-scale programs for the restoration of Ukraine, including the development of affected regions and support for the social infrastructure aimed at integrating IDPs to help them achieve a better standard of living. Transcarpathia may submit its facilities to participate in the program – the representative of the institution said.

During the meeting, they discussed the energy efficiency of municipal buildings. Volodymyr Chubirko pointed out the prospects of this work in the context of energy saving. These projects may also receive investments from the bank, however the issue of updating water utilities is more than interesting and topical for Transcarpathia. This is an important task, treatment plants and water supply infrastructure in general require urgent intervention, so these projects are the priority.

As for the prospects of investment in water utilities, the cooperation between the Bank office and local and regional authorities will continue. Also, the regional administration received information about other investment programs of the EIB provided and will prepare projects to be submitted to the MRDC.
