The Consul General of Poland in Lviv Jaroslaw Drozd is visiting Transcarpathia

Today, the Chairman of the Regional Council Volodymyr Chubirko and the head of the Regional State Administration Vasyl Hubal met with the Consul General of Poland in Lviv Jaroslaw Drozd.

Jaroslaw Drozd said that visit to Uzhgorod is always a joyous moment for him. Here he has participated in the closing of the exhibition of Polish artists in the regional art museum. With the leadership of Transcarpathia he discussed the possibility of opening the checkpoint "Lubnya-Volosate."

Currently Transcarpathians, who want to cross the Ukrainian-Polish border, must travel a considerable distance through the territory of Ukraine or go through Slovakia, which takes additional time. The nearest checkpoint is located nearly 120 km away in Lviv region.

Volodymyr Chubirko reported that the regional authorities had already notified diplomatic missions of our intention to intensify the work on opening the crossing point. The management of Podkarpackie province also received appropriate propositions. "Also, the Ukrainian-Polish intergovernmental commission has received our propositions. And we are ready to engage all possible contacts in order to open the crossing point in Transcarpathia", - the Chairman of the Regional Council said.

Vasyl Hubal said that he would raise the issue during a meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine. Also, he said that the regional administration would invite the Ambassador of Ukraine in Poland Andriy Deshchytsia to Transcarpathia, in order to inspect the place where the new crossing point is to be opened.

Also Volodymyr Chubirko suggested the Consul General to coordinate our projects submitted for the EU grants within the Carpathian region. "We have such arrangements with Hungary. We work with the border regions of Hungary and Romania. And now we offer it to Polish partners too," - the Chairman of the Regiona Council said.
