The Ambassador of Romania to Ukraine Cornel Ionescu is visiting Transcarpathia

Today the head of the Regional State Administration Vasyl Hubal and the Chairman of the Regional Council Volodymyr Chubirko met with the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Romania to Ukraine Cornel Ionescu. This is not the first Ambassador's visit to our region. He had had meetings with representatives of the Romanian national cultural societies, visited the celebration of the 45th anniversary of the Museum of Folk Architecture and Life.

Vasyl Hubal said that Transcarpathia is actively initiating contacts with European neighbors, including Romanian colleagues. Tomorrow the delegation of the two districts will visit Romania, where the agreement on cooperation of local communities will be signed.

Volodymyr Chubirko suggested to develop local border traffic which was opened between Romania and Ukraine this year. "Unfortunately, Schengen visas for us have not yet been canceled. We propose to increase the area of local border traffic up to 100 kilometers. We are negotiating with the Poles, Slovaks and Hungarians about this. Transcarpathians will be able to see the standards of European life. Our neighbors have their diplomatic missions in Transcarpathia, so it is possible to open the Romanian consulate in the regional center too. Also, to ensure quality traffic between our countries, it is advisable to complete the project for the construction of a bridge across the Tisa River in Transcarpathian region" - the Chairman of the Regional Council suggests.

Also Volodymyr Chubirko considers it appropriate to cooperate actively within the Danube Strategy. Primarily, in the field of flood protection in the basin of the Tisa river.

Cornel Ionescu said that he had visited the region many times and believes that Transcarpathia is becoming European-like. "We have done everything possible in order to develop bilateral relations. We should develop the relations and especially at the interregional level. We are ready to share our experience in decentralization. And we have to establish contacts at the regional level. We are ready to look for new points of contact in our relationships.  We need to build new bridges of cooperation and a bridge across the Tisa river, which will bring us together", - Mr. Ambassador said.
