Some consulates took technical holidays until June 22
For example, on the bulletin board in front of the Consulate General of Hungary in Uzhgorod, there is an announcement: "Due to technical reasons, the Consular Office of the Consulate General of the Republic of Hungary in Uzhgorod will not be accepting documents for a Schengen visa from 17 to 22 of June." Starting from June 23, as reported by the Consulate General, they will be issuing visas under the new procedure.
On that date, the changes to the process of application for a Schengen visa will enter into force. According to the Consul General of Hungary in Uzhgorod Jozsef Bochkai, they are the result of the introduction of VIS (Visa Information System) and have purely technical nature. By the end of November this year, all the consulates of the Schengen zone countries will be connected to this system. And it is done in order to protect applicants from theft of their personal data and prevent fraud with documents and trade of visas.
The head of the Consulate of Hungary in Beregovo Endre Salipski said in a telephone conversation that their diplomatic office would not be working on those days too. They are setting a new equipment there. "We will resume work on 23-24 of June," - Mr. Endre added.
Instead, the Consulate General of the Slovak Republic in Uzhgorod report that they are ready to changes to visa issuance procedure and will not take day-offs to set new equipment. "On June 23, our consulate, like all others, will start issuing biometric visas, but we expect no difficulties in our work in this regard. Our employees already have experience of using special equipment, because we collect biometric data for local border traffic permits. Therefore, the consulate will be working by the usual schedule", - the Consul General of the Slovak Republic in Uzhgorod Janka Burianova assured in the comments to the site "Mukachevo.net".
