Uzhgorod Roma preschool children are being prepared for school. During summer, kids aged 6 to 9 years are trained by the Transcarpathian regional charitable fund "Blago."
This year, thirty school children are prepared under the project. They are taught to distinguish between colors, read, count, draw and create cards with their own hands. The project for training of preschoolers has been implemented for two years. Daily work with Roma children gives result, because eventually they instill in them love for new knowledge, which facilitates future work of school teachers.
Lesya Dukay is a teacher of the school №7 and works for the project to prepare children for school. She says that working with children who are neglected at home is difficult. Most of them are not even brought to the kindergarten, which complicates the task twice. Therefore Ms. Lesya is convinced that such classes are needed. Because for most of them, it is the only way to receive basic elementary knowledge.
Mathematics, Ukrainian and hygiene are basic classes for children at the Regional Charitable Foundation "Blago" under the project of preparation for school. The center has been working since 2003, but has been preparing preschoolers only since 2013. The Chairman of the Charitable Fund Eleonora Kulchar says that Roma children need to be prepared for school, because it gives an opportunity to teach them discipline and encourage learning.
