In Uzhgorod, Chief Border Commissioners of Ukraine and Slovakia discussed cooperation
Yesterday, in Uzhgorod, there was a meeting of the Chief Border Commissioners of Ukraine and the Slovak Republic, during which the Head of the State Border Service of Ukraine Colonel-General Viktor Nazarenko and the Head of the Border Police and the Foreign Police of the Police Corps Presidium Colonel Ludovit Biro discussed the state of security at the Ukrainian-Slovak border, work of checkpoints and further development of cooperation between the border guard agencies.
During the meeting, the heads of border guard agencies of both countries stated that the agreements reached during the previous meeting had been fulfilled, and the situation on the common border remains dynamic and controlled. The main threat on the Ukrainian-Slovak state border is the activity of criminal groups engaged in trafficking of people, smuggling of tobacco products, drugs, stolen cars, goods and so on.
In total, during 5 months of this year, on the Slovak section of the border, 5 channels of human trafficking were exposed, Ukrainian border guards detained 88 illegal migrants, most of whom were from Afghanistan and Syria, as well as citizens of Vietnam, Georgia, Iran, Iraq and Pakistan.
Viktor Nazarenko and Ludovit Biro noted that effective counteracting of existing threats is ensured by a high level of interaction of search units, cooperation between the agencies in the exchange of statistical and analytical information, introduction of joint patrols of the Slovak-Ukrainian state border, etc.
In addition, in order to implement the agreements of the President of Ukraine with presidents of the "Visegrad Four" on the organization of a new format of cooperation, particularly in the area of security, the dialogue on the possibility of establishing joint checkpoints under EU law has been launched. In this regard, two meetings of experts of the border agencies of Ukraine and Slovakia have already been held.
After the event, Viktor Nazarenko and Ludovit Biro signed the Plan of cooperation between the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine and the Bureau of Border Police and the Foreign Police of the Police Corps Presidium of the Slovak Republic for 2015 - 2016.
