In Transcarpathia, military prosecutors detained a border guard for bribery
Military Prosecutors of Uzhgorod Garrison in Western Ukraine, detained a border guard in the course of the criminal proceeding for an offense under Part 3 of Art. 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (obtaining of undue advantage)
Uzhgorod garrison military prosecutor's office together with officers of the Anti-Corruption and Organized Crime Department of the Security Service of Ukraine office in Transcarpathian region arrested an officer of Mukachevo border detachment of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine immediately after receiving undue advantage.
The fact of extortion of undue advantage by the said serviceman were registered in the Unified register of pre-trial investigations on the grounds of a criminal offense under Part 3 of Art. 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (obtaining of undue advantage by an official).
It has been established that the officer, using his official position, offered a local resident to assist in trasportation of tobacco product across the state border of Ukraine in return for money.
On June, 2, 2015, the citizen, as previously agreed, handed over and the officer took the cash in the amount of 480 USD. The border guard was detained according Art.208 of the CPC of Ukraine. The object of the criminal offense - cash - was seized.
Currently, the notification of suspision under Art.368 Part 3 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and the request to court to impose a pretrial restrained against the officer and to remove him from the office are being prepared.
The pretrial investigation continues.
Reference cited offenses shall be punished by imprisonment of five to ten years, with disqualification to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to three years with confiscation of property and with a special forfeiture.
