On June 9, there was a meeting of the regional commission on technogenic and ecological safety and emergencies chaired by the acting head of the RSA Mykhailo Rivis.

The meeting was attended by the acting chief of the State Emergencies Service of Ukraine Office in Transcarpathian region Volodymyr Tsitsey, representatives of the State Health Inspectorate and regional forestry and hunting economy.

The first issue on the agenda was the preparation for the bathing season, and safety on water bodies in the region. According to the head of the civilian protection department of the State Emergencies Service of Ukraine Office in Transcarpathian region Roman Zajac, this year, the water has already claimed lives of 11 Transcarpathians. Last year, 26 people died in water bodies of the region, including four young children.

"The main reason of tragedies is drinking and bathing in unsuitable places of recreation" - Roman Zajac said. Also, he said, there are only 5 registered places of mass recreation in Transcarpathia: two in Beregovo district and also in Khust, Tyachiv and Vynogradiv districts.

At the meeting of the commission, they also discussed the issue of fire safety in ecosystems of the region in the summer.

According to the head of emergency response department of the State Emergencies Service of Ukraine Office in Transcarpathian region Dmytro Leshko, because of mass burning of dry vegetation, fire hazard in natural ecosystems and private yards has significantly increased. Thus, according to him, this year, 351 dry grass fires and 14 forest fires have been recorded. "Fires in forests are mostly caused by dead wood burning. Often, burning of dry grass leads to unintended consequences in settlements", - the rescuer stated.

Given the disaster in Kyiv region, where a fire started on the tank farm, Mykhailo Rivis and the acting head of the State Emergencies Service of Ukraine Office in Transcarpathian region discussed the readiness of Transcarpathian firefighters to eliminate fires of this type. Volodymyr Tsitsey informed that in June all high-risk facilities in the region will be checked by officers of the State Emergencies Service. However, he said, there a problem with availability of fire extinguishing substances for flammable compounds at fire-fighting units.
