In July, regional gas companies will separate business activities

On July 1, 2015, regional gas companies of Ukraine will separate transportation and supply areas of their business.

This was reported to the "Interfax-Ukraine" news agency by the director of the Regulatory Policy Department of the "RGC" Miroslav Bodnar.
"Regarding the "RGC", we have been ready for separation since 2014. In October 2014, we apllied for new licenses, but we were denied," - Bodnar said.

"The main reason is that the "Naftogaz" was categorically against the separation, as the new provider has no assets. As far as I understand, the National Commission managed to convince the NAC, and they reached the consensus that this division will take place on July 1, 2015," - he said.
According to Bodnar, during the separation, each regional gas company will establish a new LLC, which will receive license for gas supply.

"All regional gas companies will give up their licenses for gas supply and establish new separate companies for this activity. The process is nearly over. All companies with a customer base of more than 100 thousand customers will be divided without external pressure" - the source said.

He added that the managers of newly established enterprises-suppliers would be financially independent, they would not hold other offices in the vertically integrated company.
"It's a legal and institutional separation. It fully meets the requirements of the Second and Third Energy Packages of the EU. More stringent requirements are put forward only for operators of gas mains, such as "Ukrtransgaz" - Bodnar summed up.
The "RGC" manages more than 20 gas distribution and gas supply companies throughout Ukraine.
