Embroidery of Volyn masters was presented in Uzhgorod (PHOTOS)
On June 10, an informative, colorful and soulful exhibition of embroidered towels opened in the Transcarpathian Regional Museum of Folk Architecture and Life. The authors are known masters from Volyn Svitlana and Galina Makhoniuks.
The sisters were born with physical defects, but they devoted their entire lives to needlework and gained recognition in this area from many experts and fans of embroidery, as evidenced by numerous awards and distinctions in Ukraine and abroad.
In 2009, Svitlana Makhoniuk passed away, but her sister Galina tirelessly continues to promote both her own works and those of her "half" in life and in art.
Due to poor health, Galina Makhoniuk was unable to come to Uzhgorod and present the exhibits personally. The exhibition was opened by the Head of the Culture Department of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration Yuriy Hleba, the museum director Gabriela Andyal, Doctor of Arts Mykhailo Belen and Doctor of Historical Sciences Serhiy Fedaka.
Noting the high artistic value of the exhibits created in spite of difficult circumstances, Yuriy Hleba prepared the certificate of the Department of Culture of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration, which will be handed to the author together with the letter of gratitude.
In total, the exhibition features about 60 embroidered towels, made in different techniques using national ornamentation.
The exhibition will run until July 5th.
