Chop Mayor commented on the situation with water supply in the city
The situation with water supply in Chop yesterday became one of the top news in Transcarpathia. The city with 9000 residents was left without drinking water for more than a day. The GalagovTV decided to ask the city mayor Galina Tsar about the cause of this situation.
- So what happened with water supply in Chop?
- Despite the fact that the water supply in the city has been restored, we at the city council still do not know the technical reasons for its termination. Water supply in the city is provided by the separate unit "Uzhgorod water supply distance of the "State Territorial-Branch Association "Lviv Railway", whose representatives won't provide any comments about this. Moreover, neither the city council nor residents were officially notified, as required by law, about the termination of water supply.
All the above forced the city council to resort to more drastic action. We urgently sent appeals to the Prime Minister of Ukraine, the head of the Regional State Administration and the Chairman of the Regional Council, prosecutors, the Security Service of Ukraine and the State Emergencies Service in Transcarpathian region, MPs about the critical situation with water supply in the city and asking them to take all possible measures. And only after the intervention of senior managment and law enforcement agencies of the region, water supply was immediately restored. On behalf of the entire community of Chop, I want to thank all the officials who responded to our call and helped in solving this problem.
- So what was the reason for this?
- You know, I do not want to resort to judgements, but it was hardly a coincidence. Today, there are claims of Chop City Council, where we demand the Lviv Railway to justify increase of tariffs for water supply and termination of the contract between the ME "Tisa" and the "Uzhgorod water supply distance," pending in court One of them will be considered tomorrow, June 17.
Therefore, I do not rule out that the railway management decided to show, as they say, "who's the boss". As the Chairman of the Regional Council Volodymyr Chubirko said yesterday, it seems that representatives of Lviv Railways decided that they are the management the city and make all decisions.
There is also an alarming and depressing fact that, while we were solving the problem of water supply, some individuals made a PR on this problem by giving out, in the presence of journalists with cameras, water to Chop residents. In my view, such a vital issue as city water supply should not be the subject of politics. On the contrary, it should consolidate for the welfare of citizens. Today, we will meet again at the head of the RSA Vasyl Hubal. I hope that representatives of the Lviv Railway will come to this meeting and we will resolve these issues so that this situation is not repeated in the future.
