On March, electricity for the population will grow by 40% - Minister
The arrangement with the International Monetary Fund provides an increase in electricity tariffs for households by 40% starting from March.
This was announced by Minister of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine Volodymyr Demchyshyn in an interview with the "Focus" published on Friday.
"In March, electricity tariffs will increase by 40%," - he said.
The Minister also said that natural gas tariffs for households and utilities would be increased to market levels in stages over two years, but the first increase would be after the heating season in April.
"People will receive bills, see the new tariffs, and in summer will insulate walls, replace heaters to prepare for the coming winter. In April we will also introduce a system of subsidies. We estimate that two-thirds of the population will receive it," - Demchyshyn said.
He added that in the amendments to the budget 12.5 billion hryvnia are provided for this purpose.
Earlier this week, the head of the National Bank Valeria Gontareva said that the government of Ukraine had agreed with the IMF the first phase of tariff increases: for gas - by 280%, for heating - by 66%.
Gontareva added that due to this tariff increase, the inflation for the 2015 would reach 25-26%.
