A pilot project aimed at teaching Hungarian as the second language

Regional Council Chairman Volodymyr Chubirko met with the head of Ferenc Rákóczi II Transcarpathian Hungarian Institute,  head of the Transcarpathian Hungarian Pedagogical Society and member of regional council Ilda Oros. The meeting was dedicated to the possibility toimplement a pilot project in one of Uzhgorod schools - to teach Hungarian as the second language.

According to the head of the council, currently school №2 in Uzhhorod is interested in this proposal. "We live in a large Hungarian community. In every school children study second foreign language, and therefore we propose to introduce the first pilot project in the region aimed at learning Hungarian. Over 2.5 thousand young people are studying in higher educational institutions in Hungary. Therefore, many current pupils will benefit much due to the knowledge of the Hungarian language, "- said Volodymyr Chubirko.

These proposals have been done also in Khust and one of the Uzhhorod district villages. "So if Uzhhorod school will be the first it would be appropriate. In our turn, we are ready to join, to provide methodical assistance to teach Hungarian "- says Ildika Oros. Currently, we need to agree this issue with the Ministry of Education.

Volodymyr Chubirko also reported that textbooks for our schools will be printed in Hungary and at their expense. This was agreed at a recent meeting with Hungarian delegation.
