"Way of Life" celebrated the Day of People with Disabilities

In 1992 the Assembly General of the United Nations declared December 3rd the "International Day of Persons with Disabilities". This is not a holiday, it is the day that once again reminds the public of the need to achieve full equal rights for people with disabilities and their integration in society.

The Medical and Social Rehabilitation Center "Way of Life" on this day traditionally organizes a number of activities involving wards of the institution themselves, their parents, and representatives of the government and NGOs. The celebration began in the Center, where a day of open doors was declared in the morning. Many distinguished guests, good friends and benefactors visited the Center with warm words of support and gifts. Especially welcomed guest among them was the former mayor of Uzhgorod Stepan Sember who in 1999 made great efforts to have this institution opened.

In the school №8, where several wards of the "Way of Life" study, lessons of kindness were held. Workers of the institution also addressed the students of the training courses at the Transcarpathian Institute for Advanced Postgraduate Education. In the lobby of Uzhgorod gymnasium, there was the exhibition "Enjoy life, cherish hope" from the sister city of Corvallis (Oregon, USA), where one could see how people with disabilities live in that city.
On this day, there was also a big concert program for the children, their parents and the staff of the Centre. A small concert was shown in the premises of the "Way of Life" and then children with parents were invited to the assembly hall of Uzhgorod College of Art, where students prepared an interesting program for them. In the evening, the charity performance of the famous chamber choir "Cantus" became a wonderful last chord of the day.
