The police and the prosecutors are investigating an accident, the driver is in jail

Yesterday, December 25, about 8 pm, in Uzhgorod, on Lehotsky street, a 36-year-old lieutenant colonel of the internal service of the State Emergencies Service ran over two 70-year-old women who were crossing the road on the pedestrian crossing.

This was reported by the National Police Department in Transcarpathian region.

They also reported the details.  So, when a crowd began to gather, the lieutenant colonel got into his car "VAZ 21093" and tried to flee, but the car would not start. Then the driver decided to run away on foot.  Fortunately, at this point, an officer of the Escort Service was driving by the scene of the accident. The man stopped to help the victim and saw the culprit running away. Our officer rushed to catch the unscrupulous driver. The lieutenant colonel failed to hide at home. The guard caught the fugitive at the entrance of the house.

The car was taken to the impound lot and the driver was examined - he was intoxicated. 

The culprit of the accident is being kept in the temporary holding facility of Uzhgorod Police Department.

The pensioners with multiple injuries are in intensive care of Uzhgorod central city clinic.

The prosecutors are also investigating into the accident. They report: the investigation department of the Prosecutor's Office in Transcarpathian region launched a criminal investigation into the accident (Part 2 of Art. 268 of the CC of Ukraine) involving 36-year-old head of the fire and rescue unit of Uzhgorod of the regional State Emergencies Service Office.

The crime is punishable by imprisonment for a term of three to eight years with or without deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for up to three years.
