The number of orphans in Transcarpathian orphanages
The Service for Children of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration held a seminar-training on social and legal protection of children. It was attended by heads of relevant services of districts and towns, managers and lawyers of Transcarpathian orphanages.
According to the head of the Service for Children Svitlana Yakimelina, the number of orphans in Transcarpathian orphanages is decreasing. "While in 2010, 412 children were brought up in boarding schools, in 2012, their number was 296, and in 2014 - 218. Currently, there are 207 children in orphanages of Transcarpathia," - the official said.
This year, 48 children were adopted in the region. 28 children were given to foster families, family-type homes, 20 were returned to their parents. Another 12 were given to families of potential guardians.
During the seminar, they also discussed the procedure for issuance of passports and the procedure for appointment of pensions for survivor orphans and children deprived of parental care, as well as protection of housing and property rights of boarding school inmates and so on.
