Uzhgorod police detained a thief: he was too active

A previously convicted 33-year-old resident of Uzhgorod is suspected of 8 thefts. The thief would break into private homes and steal whatever he could. 

Over the recent months, Uzhgorod city police have received seven statements from local residents. The citizens reported that their houses or appartments had been robbed. In addition to money and jewelry, the the thief took batteries, gas boiler, microwave, laptops, cell phones, cameras, bicycles and more. In one of the apartments he even took used shoes…

Also, an employee of one of the cafes in the city reported a theft to the city police. The woman told that someone had damaged the door of the cafe. The thief took alcoholic beverages and food.

The thief’s M.O. in all thefts was similar. The thief would enter into houses by breaking the windows. Sometimes he would take advantage of the owners’ carelessness who would leave balcony doors ajar for ventilation.

Officers of the Criminal Investigation Department of Uzhgorod city police caught the thief. It was a 33-year-old previously convicted resident of Uzhgorod. The man has spent several years in prison for similar crimes.

Criminal proceedings over those facts have been initiated under Part 3 of Article 185 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (burglary), which provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of 3 to 6 years. The investigation is ongoing.

The offender is un custody.
