Regional Library for Children and Young People will celebrate 70th anniversary

In October, Transcarpathian Regional Library for Children and Young People will celebrate the 70th anniversary of its establishment. Today, the library serves over 15 thousand users - children of primary, middle and high school age, it is the main library for children and youth in Transcarpathian region, its book fund consists of 155 thousand copies of library documents.

Today the institution was visited by the Regional Council Chairman Volodymyr Chubirko. During the meeting with the librarians, he assured them that the Regional Council would continue to support them and would take effective steps to decentralization. Thus, on the initiative of the Regional Council, the appointment and dismissal of heads of regional enterprises, institutions and organizations will be approved at plenary sessions. This mechanism provides for the nomination of candidates by the labor collective, discussion and approval thereof by relevant committee of the Regional Council, appropriate department of the RSA, the public. At each stage, the process should be transparent and open. Thus, last year Valentina Chika, who has been managing the establishment for 18 years, was elected the head of the library.

Among the problems mentioned by the library staff, there were low wages, lack of funds for replenishment of the fund. Also, the staff is preparing to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the library. The Regional Council Chairman promised to support the staff in their quest to modernize the library.
