Rakoshyno "blockers" face criminal prosecution

Blocking of the road of international importance in Rakoshyno was not ignored by law enforcement.

Criminal proceeding has been initiated over blocking of the road of international importance in Rakoshyno of Mukachevo district.

Last night, in the village of Rakoshyno in Mukachevo district, local residents blocked the international highway Kyiv-Chop.

Several dozen protesters blocked the vehicular traffic by standing on a pedestrian crossing. Thus, the villagers were protesting against rising utility rates. The protest lasted for 11 hours. The strikers left the road only around 4 o'clock in the morning. Public order was ensured by Mukachevo police.

Several dozen people were walking back and forth on the pedestrian crossing, blocking the traffic. 

The protesters demanded to either adjust the utility rates or to raise salaries and pensions. The crowd demanded the meeting with the head of the Transcarpathian region Hennadiy Moskal.

The chief of Transcarpathian police Serhiy Knyazev arrived at the scene and talked with the local community and activists. After lengthy negotiations, the picketers went home around 4 o'clock in the morning.

The incident was registered in the Unified register of pre-trial investigation on the grounds of an offense under Part 1 of Art. 279 (blocking of transport communications) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
