Official events to mark the anniversary of Independence of Ukraine in the region start already this Friday
On the occasion of the 24th anniversary of Independence of Ukraine, every district of Transcarpathia has prepared their own program of cultural events. Accordingly, the main state holidays - the National Flag Day and the Independence Day - will be celebrated on the largest scale in the regional center.
August 21 at 15.00 in the hall of the Transcarpathian Regional Music and Drama Theater, there will be a solemn meeting with top officials of the region and deputies, diplomats, members of the judiciary, law enforcement and regulatory authorities, military leaders and participants of the ATO, heads of national-cultural associations and universities of the region, members of the clergy and intellectuals.
After congatulation speeches, the Honoured Academic Transcarpathian Folk Choir, Academic Chamber Choir "Cantus", pop-brass band of the Regional Philharmonic and its leading soloists Oleksandr Sadvariy and Miroslava Shvakh-Pekar, the children's dance group "Dzhereltse Karpat" will perform on the stage, teachers and students of Uzhgorod College of Culture and Arts will perform a number of musical and choreographic compositions. Special guest of the evening will be People's Artist of Ukraine Natalia Buchynska.
The festive program will continue with Sunday events:
- 9.00 - celebration of the Day of the National Flag on Narodna square;
- 12.00 - nationwide minute of silence for those killed in eastern Ukraine near the Hill of Glory.
And the Independence Day itself will begin early in the morning with the "Prayer for Ukraine" by the Honoured Academic Transcarpathian Folk Choir. The spiritual and patriotic flash mob starts at 6.00 on the pedestrian bridge.
