The regional authorities met with activists of NGOs for Chernobyl disaster liquidators

Today, April 24, regional officials met with activists of regional NGOs for Chernobyl disaster liquidators. The meeting was attended by the acting head of the RSA Mykhailo Rivis, the Regional Council Chairman Volodymyr Chubirko, the head of the regional NGO "Union Chernobyl Ukraine" Vasyl Uhryn, heads of regional departments, in particular, Labour and Social Welfare and Health departments.

The meeting began with a minute of silence for the victims of the Chernobyl disaster and those who heroically fulfilled their mission.

         Opening the event, Mykhailo Rivis said that there is no family in the region that has not been affected by the tragedy. "Transcarpathians were involved in liquidation of the accident aftermath. We took this burden. Many people were doing it without fear. The heroism of the rescuers saved thousands of lives. Now we have to take care of these families, and they should feet the care," - the Deputy Governor said.

Volodymyr Chubirko believes that the Chernobyl tragedy was a lesson to all mankind. "We do not know how the tragedy would have affected the development of mankind without you. We gave the world the "experience" of cheap energy. We are indebted to the people who went to the Chernobyl zone. Thousands deaths is the price for safer life. The Regional Council supports this category of population. And it will continue, despite financial problems", - the Chairman of the Regional Council assured. 


Speakers raised concerns about the lack of funding provided for the purchase of drugs and their high prices, large queues for prosthetic dentistry, housing, land, and the need for spa treatment of this category of population in the region. 

                After that, on Druzhba Narodiv Square, there was a meeting-requiem on the anniversary of the Chernobyl tragedy. The leaders of the region together with the public paid tribute to the victims of the largest man-made disaster in human history, the priests of various denominations held a memorial service for the victims of the Chernobyl disaster. The event ended with a mourning salute.
