Chairman of the Regional Council met with the head of the Košice self-governing region

The Regional Council Chairman Volodymyr Chubirko during a visit to Kosice met with the head of Kosice self-governing region Zdenko Trebulya. First of all, Volodymyr Chubirko sincerely thanked for willingness to meet and opportunity to discuss issues of further cooperation. He also expressed gratitude for the assistance provided by Slovakia to Ukraine in this difficult period.

Thus, the last year alone, Slovakia provided humanitarian assistance to Ukraine in the amount of 800 thousand euros, and this year - in the amount of 700 thousand euros. Slovakia organized the rehabilitation of 50 persons wounded on the Maidan. In March, our neighbors took 87 children from the ATO area for rehabilitation.

The Chairman of the Transcarpathian Regional Council also informed on the activities of the regional council in deepening cross-border and regional cooperation. Volodymyr Chubirko noted that the decentralization of power is taking place in Ukraine, local governments are gaining additional powers. In this regard, the regional council pays special attention to the establishment and development of cross-border relations for further economic development of the region, improvoment of the investment climate.

The parties discussed the prospects of cooperation between Transcarpathian region and Košice self-governing region. First of all, it was about the development of road infrastructure. Zdenko Trebulya said that Slovakia is planning to upgrade the highway from Kosice to the border with Ukraine. Another infrastructure project is the building of the checkpoint "Vysne Nemecke -Uzhgorod".

Also, it was agreed to coordinate the positions of the parties in cross-border cooperation programs, the EU grant projects.
During the meeting, they discussed the organization of the Days of neighborliness on Ukrainian-Slovak border. Another suggestion from Volodymyr Chubirko was the opening of a monument or a bust to the founder of Slovak studies Pavel Jozef Safarik in Uzhgorod.
