"Tomorrow, January 22, on the Day of Unity of Ukraine (symbolically!), the bulk of the rules adopted on 16 of January in the Parliament and referred to as "the laws of Ukraine" will take effect", – law professor, lecturer of UzhNU, lawyer Vasyl Lemak wrote in facebook.
He adds: "The new criminal rules on defamation and extremism allow one thing – to assign signs of "crime" to any statement or action of citizens. Without exaggeration. And access to the mechanism of application of these "laws" will become a repressive machine that will be trying to create fear in society (and in the ruling party too for those who do not understand). Their primery target is media, independent journalism, formed over two decades in more or less democratic conditions. The only thing worse than censorship is journalist’s self- censorship. And the fear of citizens to speak is even worse."
