Lack of snow does not hurt tourism, but the lack of preparedness of individual owners does
Transcarpathia is still without snow. However, it only partially affected high season, which is the New Year and Christmas holidays. Hotels and tourist centers, which worked to attract customers, were almost full.
Tourists waiting for the snow are willing to come later, owners of resorts say. So, now they are actively moving their reservations in hotels from mid to late January or early February.
The manager of the hotel in the village of Pylypets in Mizhhirya district Vasyl Pukman told Uzhgorod.in, that all sixty rooms of their hotel were taken on the New Year's Eve, despite the fact that a number of Russian tourists had refused to come because of the Euromaidan.
So far, in Uzhgorod, they are still only counting the number of tourists vacationing in Transarpathian region on the New Year and Christmas. However, tourist experts already name reasons why some local ski resorts and lifts were empty. And the lack of snow is not an argument. Especially, since it is not the first snowless January in Transcarpathia.
The head of the department of tourism infrastructure and service of UzhNU Fedir Sandor said that tourist facilities should not complain about the lack of snow "you have to prepare for snowless winters in spring and summer. Then you can make artificial ponds to collect the necessary amount of water for the first phase of snow pouring. Accordingly, those, who poured snow on the slopes during the first two days of natural snowfall in December, have a snow cover even today. Where they did not do it, there's no snow now because warming began".
An alternative to snowless January is popular events and festivals. During the first two weeks of 2014, there have been 8 festivals in Transcarpathia.
Despite this, in Transcarpathian region, they are still waiting for snow...
