In January Transcarpathians celebrate almost every day

In Transcarpathia, the period of major winter holidays - Christmas holidays - started with the meeting of the ancestors on Christmas Eve and ended with the send-off on the Epiphany.

The Christmas cycle of celebrations is associated with the rebirth of the new sun, which begins to rise higher and shine warmer.

It had the greatest number of ceremonial rituals to ensure health, happiness and prosperity, and many of them were also aimed at honoring the ancestors. During this period, Transcarpathians sing carols and wish home owners and their family prosperity - the newspaper "RIO" wrote.

Conventionally, the winter holiday cycle finishes on the day of Petro Veryha, according to the modern church calendar (January 29). On this day, people predicted the onset of spring and summer weather.
