3 years is the price of three human lives

According to the press service of the Office of the Security Service of Ukraine in Transcarpathian region, the sentence of Uzhgorod city and district court against the citizen of Ukraine, who in 2007 organized the illegal crossing of the state border for a citizen of the Russian Federation which resulted in death of her three young children, has entered into force. For a long time the offender was hiding from the law. In 2011, officers of the Security Service of Ukraine detained the citizen of Ukraine.

For 2700 U.S. dollars, the former border guard agreed to organize the illegal crossing of Ukrainian-Slovak state border for a woman and her four children of Dzhamaldinov family.

On the appointed day, the organizer's accomplices drove the woman, her three daughters and a son from a shelter to the border and delivered the woman to the village of Zhornava in Velyky Berezny district, showed her the direction of travel through the mountain woodland to Slovakia and left Kamisa with the children to fend for themselves.

For several days she was wandering the woods, where her daughters aged 6, 10 and 12 died of hypothermia. Finally, the woman and her two-year-old son got to the Polish Republic.

When the organizer learned about the tragedy, he returned Kamisa's husband the money and ran.

Uzhgorod City and District Court qualified his actions under Part 2 of Art.332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine as "the organization of illegal transportation of persons across the state border of Ukraine, the management of such actions by prior conspiracy" and sentenced the former border guard to 3 years imprisonment.

His accomplices were sentenced earlier to various terms of imprisonment.
